A Family Consultant is a person who works at the Court and helps families who don’t live together anymore. They talk to parents and kids. The Family Consultant helps the judge understand about you and your family. Parents separating can be very hard for kids. The judge needs to know how you feel about what has happened in your family. The Family Consultant tells the judge these things when he or she goes to court, or in a report called a ‘Family Report’. The Family Consultant will spend some time with you alone and then together with other members of your family. You do not have to say anything you don’t want to. You will not be asked to choose between your parents. It is good to let the Family Consultant know what you think and feel about your family and what arrangements you think might work for you.
